And Welcome Back: Stories by Dave Thompson Kickstarter

April 21, 2015

saint darwins spiritualsBack in 2008 I did a cover for Murky Depths magazine; the image was based on one of the featured stories, Saint Darwin’s Spirituals by D.K. Thompson.  A year later I got to illustrate another of Dave’s stories set in the same world, for yet another Murky Depths cover.  Now Dave, who’s not only an author but also an audiobook narrator and podcaster (he was the former co-editor and host of the fantasy fiction podcast, PodCastle), is getting set to publish his debut collection of short stories, and has launched a Kickstarter to help him do so.

The collection, entitled And Welcome Back: Stories, will include at least nine reprinted stories, a brand new story and the first ever printing of Annnnd Welcome Back, which you can listen to for free on Dave’s website.  Amongst these stories will be three from his Saint Darwin’s universe (which I’m keen to revisit!) – a fantasy steampunk world filled with all manner of monsters, where Charles Darwin has invented goggles that lets the wearer see ghosts.

The Kickstarter was just launched last week and has already reached it’s funding goal.  However, there are still a number of stretch goals Dave is aiming to reach (one of which would allow for me to do a brand new piece of cover art for this collection) and there’s still another 23 days left for people to back the project.  So if this sounds like your kind of thing, do make sure you head over to the Kickstarter page and check out the large range of rewards available for levels of pledges ranging from just $5 to $500 or more.
