A Skinful of Shadows

Over the past year I’ve done a few more covers for the US editions of Frances Hardinge’s YA novels, which I’ll post over the coming weeks.  Here’s the first one, which is for A Skinful of Shadows which is out now from Amulet Books.

We played around with a few very different concepts for this cover.  You can see the various rough sketches I proposed below.

Originally the book was titled Cold Inheritance, so after it was renamed A Skinful of Shadows it was decided that it would be a good idea to add a subtle shadow element to the tombstone idea which the team had decided to go with.
